Saiyidah Aisyah shines bright!!  We are sure by now, Singaporeans alike will have been exposed to the success of Saiyidah Aisyah, our sole representative for Rowing at the 27th SEA Games in Myanmar back in December 2013.
Defying all odd and putting everything she has behind her to ensure she achieve her dreams paid off when Saiyidah Aisyah came back with a Gold medal in the Lightweight Women Single Scull event. 3 times SEA Games Bronze medalist prior to her Gold medal triumph in Myanmar, Saiyidah Aisyah sacrificed her time and finances to support her training leading up to the games. The biggest sacrifice she had to make was to take a break from work to undergo a 3-month intensive training out in Sydney under the watchful eyes of an experienced world class Coach from Rowing Australia, Alan Bennett.. Aisyah managed to clock her personal best time of 7 mins 55 seconds while competing at one of the local events while she was on the training stint. Although the timing was off by just over 10 secs from her personal best, Aisyah still managed to overtake and cross the finish line at Ngalike Dam in NayPiTaw, Myanmar in first place in 8mins 8.94secs, ahead of Indonesia’s Maryam Makdalena Daimoi (8:10.47) with Myanmar’s Shwe Zin Latt in third (8:14.85). Aisyah believes that her post Gold medal moment will help Rowing grow as a bigger National Sport Association (NSA) with many more local born rowers representing the nation at major games.
