SRA is proud to learn that there are kind souls in Singapore, with the likes of Mr Hansen Bay, who met with Saiyidah Aisyah Md Rafa'ee and also some of the SRA Exco Members over lunch.

The purpose of the meet up was because Mr Bay had expressed his interest in making some monetary contribution as a token towards Aisyah's successful campaign at the recent SEA Games in Myanmar. Mr Bay explained that the interest came after he learned the sacrifices and the tough journey that Aisyah had to go through prior to her glory moments.

Views, plans and programs were exchanged and SRA hopes to work hand in hand with Mr Bay's company, Activo, a PE and Sports Equipment Company, to promote rowing to the community with the  short term target of growing a new fresh squad for the 2015 SEA Games and growing the popularity of rowing as a whole long term.

Once again, SRA would like to thank
Mr Hansen Bay for his generous contributions.

THANK YOU!

Singapore Rowing in the limelight...

6/1/2014

Saiyidah Aisyah shines bright!!

Picture
We are sure by now, Singaporeans alike will have been exposed to the success of Saiyidah Aisyah, our sole representative for Rowing at the 27th SEA Games in Myanmar back in December 2013.
Defying all odd and putting everything she has behind her to ensure she achieve her dreams paid off when Saiyidah Aisyah came back with a Gold medal in the Lightweight Women Single Scull event.

3 times SEA Games Bronze medalist prior to her Gold medal triumph in Myanmar, Saiyidah Aisyah sacrificed her time and finances to support her training leading up to the games. The biggest sacrifice she had to make was to take a break from work to undergo a 3-month intensive training out in Sydney under the watchful eyes of an experienced world class Coach from Rowing Australia, Alan Bennett.. Aisyah managed to clock her personal best time of 7 mins 55 seconds while competing at one of the local events while she was on the training stint.

Although the timing was off by just over 10 secs from her personal best, Aisyah still managed to overtake and cross the finish line at Ngalike Dam in NayPiTaw, Myanmar in first place in
8mins 8.94secs, ahead of Indonesia’s Maryam Makdalena Daimoi (8:10.47) with Myanmar’s Shwe Zin Latt in third (8:14.85).

Aisyah believes that her post Gold medal moment will help Rowing grow as a bigger National Sport Association (NSA) with many more local born rowers representing the nation at major games.

Other news around the web:
  • Aisyah wins rowing gold medal
  • SEA Games: Saiyidah Aisyah wins Singapore's first rowing gold since 1997
