Message from the President

A Message to Our Rowers
Success is built on self-belief, hard work, mental toughness, and resilience. These are qualities that not only shape strong athletes, but also strong individuals in life.
There is often a misconception that athletes must become full-time rowers to achieve success at the highest level. However, many athletes around the world — including respected names such as Matt Brittain — have shown that it is possible to excel both academically and in sport.
At Singapore Rowing, we are proud to introduce a new integrated and progressive athlete development pathway. This pathway is designed to guide athletes from beginner level into the development squad, progressing through to the junior national team and eventually the senior national team.

Supporting Athletes Beyond Training
For athletes who may require additional support from their families to commit more consistently to training, the coaching team is always open to engaging with parents. Training regularly — ideally at least five times a week — plays a significant role in long-term athlete development and performance progression.
The association also strongly believes that rowing creates opportunities beyond sport. The discipline, resilience, and teamwork developed through rowing have proven to support academic growth and scholarship opportunities as well.
We have already seen inspiring examples of this through Marta’s journey in Italy, demonstrating how rowing can open doors both academically and internationally.

A Shared Vision for Excellence
Under Giorgio’s leadership, Singapore Rowing aims to continue developing athletes capable of competing at the highest levels. Giorgio has a strong track record of guiding beginners into world junior-level athletes, and we firmly believe that young athletes in Singapore are equally capable of achieving international success.
With the support and belief of the wider community and nation behind us, Singapore Rowing remains committed to building a stronger future for the sport and making Singapore proud on the international stage.
We look forward to seeing all athletes continue to grow in confidence, commitment, resilience, and self-belief in the months ahead.
The best is yet to come.
