Inspiring the Next Generation Through Rowing

9/6/2026

Singapore Rowing recently had the opportunity to engage students from Kent Ridge Secondary School and Commonwealth Secondary School through a series of exciting school outreach programmes aimed at introducing the sport of rowing and inspiring young athletes.
As part of the programme, our coaches shared insights into the sport, highlighting the values that rowing develops, including discipline, resilience, teamwork, and perseverance. Students also had the chance to learn more about the opportunities available through rowing, from recreational participation to competitive pathways.

One of the highlights of the outreach was the 1-Minute Ergometer (Ergo) Time Trial Challenge, where students put their strength, determination, and endurance to the test. With only 60 seconds on the clock, participants were challenged to push their limits and see how far they could row.

The atmosphere quickly became electric as students cheered one another on throughout the challenge. Friends encouraged friends, classmates rallied behind their peers, and healthy competition emerged as participants aimed to secure a coveted place on the Top 10 Leaderboard.
The leaderboard became a focal point of excitement throughout the event, motivating students to give their best effort and return for another attempt to improve their rankings. Beyond the competition, the challenge demonstrated the importance of self-belief, perseverance, and supporting one another in achieving personal goals.

It was inspiring to witness the enthusiasm and determination displayed by the students from both schools. The outreach programme not only introduced many young people to the sport of rowing but also showcased how sport can bring communities together, foster friendships, and encourage individuals to challenge themselves.

Singapore Rowing would like to thank the students, teachers, and staff of Kent Ridge Secondary School and Commonwealth Secondary School for their warm welcome and enthusiastic participation.
We look forward to continuing our outreach efforts and inspiring more young people to discover the exciting world of rowing.
